Green
echo
from
London

Leslie Kot is a passionate,
dedicated musician
and writer. He is also my friend.
On this, his new album, he has put together a
superbly tight group
of musicians to play
music that demonstrates their combined
experience
of the Blues, Jazz, Rock
and
Funk.
The lyrics are written by Leslie in
English, and express- in an often surreal
way -
observations on life as he sees and
feels it.
These are not songs that you will find yourself
singing, they are
Leslie's and his alone,
the voice wheezing and snarling, croaking
and caressing
the words - sometimes spoken,
sometimes sung.
This guy and his band are unique and "Green Colour"
gets better with each playing.
Listen and
make up your own minds.
Enjoy!

ALBUM REVIEW

Four years
after Leslie Kot’s CD "Woman
O Woman", a new CD is released with the
environmentally friendly title "Green
Colour” which includes 12 titles, all
of
them with lyrics by Leslie Kot and music by
composers Leslie Kot, Romuald Frey and Jacek
Krzaklewski.
The band consists of guitarists Jacek
Krzaklewski (from the polish supergroup
Perfect) and Romuald Frey, legendary (in
Poland) bassist Mietek Jurecki
(Vintage,
Logo, ex Budka Suflera) and a respectable
group of Polish and Swedish musicians. (A
total of twenty-three people).
This album differs from his last album,
through a calmer mood, a uniform genre, a
real and mature rock with sophisticated
rock/blues influences. One song
really
sticks
out with a different style though,
it’s the jazzy "Ceasar`s Light".
Musically this album is a genuine work
of art where every note is meaningful.
Leslie is generous and leaves a lot of space
for the others so they can really
show their
art. Guitarists Jacek Krzaklewski, Romuald
Frey, Janusz Konefal, Clas Olofsson, Lennart
Persson and Leslie play at an elite level,
keyboard playing
musicians Jerzy
Kaczmarek and Juliusz Mazur
persistently build their harmonic structures
in style with the masters like Steely
Dan/Donald Fagen. Gregory Ostrowsky
richens
the sound with his trumpet and trombone just
like the girls vocals (Linda Karlstedt and
others).
John Crawford’s drums are
tight.
Bassist Mietek Jurecki fills
the songs with his discreet personality. But
listen to his "wild" solo in the end of
"Ride A Horse". Wonderful.
The lyrics differ from today’s radio
range through their symbolic and deep
language. They make you want to listen to
them again and again. They often touch
upon
every day issues, for ex "67 Years In
Showbiz", "Live Of Luxury", "Space Warning"
and sometimes bring up the civil, military
and political forces which ruin
nature and
humanity
( for example "Ride A Horse" and
"Blue Heaven").
Leslie’s expressionism in his vocals and
narrative pieces is very individual and
original. He also plays the guitar, flute
and harmonica solos in a couple of songs.
One perceives a mature artist whose career
spans over 40 years.
”Green Colour”
can be listened to many times and each
listening offers new nuances. A fresh and
rich source from which to find
new ideas.

Dear Leslie Kot,
…Sounds great! Your voice

reminds us
a bit of hero Kevin Coyne, who's
death is still a great loss for the

CD recension av Håkan
Pettersson (NA)
Den här recensionen publicerades ursprungligen i
Nerikes Allehanda 28/11 2002.
Örebros rockprofil nummer ett, modell äldre, gör
solodebut med en ambitiös rockplatta. Där mogen
laidbackrock samsas med blues, world music-inslag och
till och med fransk visa.
Det breda innehållet ger upphov till splittrade
känslor med för många munnar att mätta. Och Leslie Kots
stora personlighet blir ibland till en allmängiltig
allt-i-allo.
Leslies rockmusik är, med ålderns rätt, en trygg
stadig rytm.
Hans polske kompanjon Jacek Krzaklewski spelar gitarr
snabbaste spår, den oväntat hitmässiga "Once more -
before" där tjejkörens "ooh-ooh" höjer temperaturen
is here".
